Blood groups:

  1. The blood group is determined on basis of the presence or absence of the antigens A and B on the plasma membrane of the red blood cells (RBCs).
  2. There are four types of blood groups in the ABO system namely - A, B, AB, and, O.

Blood group ‘O’:

  1. In blood group O, both antigens A and B are absent on the plasma membrane of RBCs.
  2. But they have antibodies anti-A and anti-B in the blood plasma.

In people with blood group O, both antigens A and B are not present.
