Minimum Support Price is the price at which government purchases crops from the farmers, whatever may be the price for the crops. Minimum Support Price is an important part of India's agricultural price policy. The MSP helps to incentivize the framers and thus ensures adequate food grains production in the country. Based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices, the Department of Agriculture and Co-operation, Government of India, declares Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for 22 crops before their sowing seasons. According to Farmer Portal, the Commission analyses the following factors to determine the minimum support price: Cost of cultivation per hectare and structure of costs in various regions of the country and changes therein. Cost of production per quintal in various regions of the country and changes therein.
