Solution

  • At the end of the glycolysis the break down of one molecule of glucose gives 2 pyruvic acid which are formed in the cytoplasm.
  • This pyruvic acid is required to enter the mitochondria to take part in kerb cycle but it cannot enter as pyruvic acid so it reacts with the Coenzyme A before entering the kerb cycle.
  • The pyruvic acid undergoes oxidative decarboxylation where it reacts with coenzyme A and forms Acetyl CoA , one molecule of Carbon dioxide and one molecule of NADH.
  • This Acetyl CoA reacts with the oxaloacetic acid and forms citric acid which under go reactions of the kerb cycle and ends with the regeneration of the oxaloacetic acid.
  • Therefore the correct statement is "Acetyl CoA is formed from Pyruvic acid and coenzyme A"
