Solution

Photosynthesis:

It is the process of formation of food by the plants with the help of water and carbon dioxide in the presence of chlorophyll and sunlight.

Transpiration:

  1. It is the process of water loss in the form of water vapor from the aerial parts of the plant.
  2. Almost 99% of the water which is absorbed by the plants is lost through the process of transpiration.
  3. Only 1% is used for the process of photosynthesis.
  4. Transpiration keeps the leaf surface cool and keeps the continuity of water flow from the roots to the other parts of the plants.
  5. It is considered to be a necessary evil because if it is absent, then there will be no supply of water for the process of photosynthesis.
  6. It is the price paid for the process of photosynthesis.

Final answer : The process in plants which is considered as ‘price paid’ for photosynthesis is transpiration.
