Solution

Step 1: Making the denominators equal by taking LCM :

Given rational numbers are 21 and 46.

In order to compare two rational numbers with different denominators, we have to take the LCM of the denominators of the given rational numbers and then convert them into like rational numbers.

Here LCM of 1 and 6 is 6.

Consider 21

To make a denominator 6, multiply both numerator and denominator by 6. We get,

2×61×6=126

Consider 46

In 46 denominator is already 6.

Step 2 : Comparing the numerator :

Since the denominator is equal in 126 and 46. Therefore compare the numerator,

12>4

126>46

Therefore, 21>46
