Question

Find a quadratic polynomial whose zeroes are 2 and-6.

Open in App
Solution

Find the sum and product of the roots of the quadratic equation.

Let α and β be the roots of a quadratic equation.

Sum of the zeroes

α+β=2+(-6)α+β=-4

Product of the zeroes

αβ=2×-6=-12

Substitute these values in the quadratic equation x2-α+βx+αβ=0.

x2+4x-12=0

Hence, the quadratic equation is x2+4x-12=0.
