Question

Find all the points of local maxima and local minima of the function f.
f(x)=2x36x2+6x+5

Open in App
Solution

f(x)=2x36x2+6x+5
finding f(x)
f(x)=d(2x36x2+6x+5dx
f(x)=6x212x+6+0
f(x)=6(x22x+1)
f(x)=6(x2+122(x)(1))=6(x1)2
put f(x)=0
6(x)2=0x=1
At x=1 if x<|,say 0.9, Sign of f(x)>0 maxima or minima since sign of f(x) does not change ,it is point of inflexion$
At x=1 if x<|,say 1.1, Sign of f(x)>0 maxima or minima since sign of f(x)does not change ,it is point of inflexion
Hence x=1is point of inflexion
x=1,is neither maxima nor point of minima.
