If $3$ is a solution of equation, then it should satisfy that equation,

$3 x^{2} + (k - 3) x + 0 = 0$

$3 (3^{2}) + (k - 3) 3 = 0$

$27 + 3 k - 9 = 0$

$3 k = - 18$

$∴ k = - 6$
