Question

Find limx0f(x) where f(x)=x1ifx<00ifx=0x+1ifx>0

Open in App
Solution

f(x)=x1;x<00;x=0x+1;x>0
Checking continuity for x=0
f is continuous at x=0 if LHL=RHL=f(0)
limx0f(x)=limx0+f(x)=f(0)

LHL=limx0f(x)=limx0(x1)=01=1 as x<0
RHL=limx0+f(x)=limx0+(x+1)=0+1=1 as x>0
Since LHLRHL
Hence f is not continuous at x=0
f is continous for xR{0}
