Pisciculture is the breeding and rearing of fishes only. While aquaculture is the farming of all the aquatic animals and plants.

Pisciculture:
  • Freshwater fishes- Catla, Rohu and common carp.
  • Marine fishes – Hilsa, Sardines, Mackerel and Pomfrets.
Aquaculture:
Crustaceans, Molluscs, Algae and other organisms of commercial value such as aquatic plants (e.g. lotus).
