It will be 'was surprised' instead of 'was surprising'. 'Surprising' causes the feeling of surprise whereas 'Surprised' possesses the feeling of surprise Thus, the error is in part A of the sentence. There is no error in parts B, C and D of the sentence. E cannot be the answer as there is an error in part A.
