Question

Question 35
Find out the following in the electric circuit given in the figure.

(a) Effective resistance of two 8 Ω resistors in the combination
(b) Current flowing through 4 Ω resistors
(c) Potential difference across 4 Ω resistances
(d) Power dissipated in 4 Ω resistors
(e) Difference in ammeter readings, if any

Solution

(a) Effective resistance of the resistors connected in parallel is given by,
1R=1R1+1R2
1R=18+18
R=R1×R2R1+R2
R=(8×88+8)=4Ω

(b) Total resistance = 4+4 = 8Ω
I=VR=88=1 A

(c) Potential drop = IR = 1 × 4 = 4V

(d) Power dissipated =I2R=(1)24=4W

(e) The same current flows through each element in a series circuit. Therefore, there is no difference.
