Question

Find out the mass of a solvent present in 500g of 30% sodium chloride solution.

Open in App
Solution

Given: Mass of solution = 500g, concentration of solution - 30%

we can use the following formula.

Concentration by mass (%) =MassofsoluteMassofsolution

So, 30% = Massofsolute500

Therefore, 30100×500=150

Therefore, Mass of solute = 150g,

Since, Mass of solution = Mass of solvent + Mass of solute,

Therefore, 500g - 150g = Mass of solvent = 350g.

Hence the mass of a solvent present in 500g of 30% sodium chloride solution is 350g.
