Solution

(1) Subtract 9 from both sides

x + 9 = 11

⇒ x + 9 − 9 = 11 − 9 (Subtract 9 from both sides)

⇒ x + 0 = 2

⇒ x = 2

(2) Add 4 to both sides

x − 4 = 9

⇒ x − 4 + 4 = 9 + 4 (Add 4 to both sides)

⇒ x + 0 = 13

⇒ x = 13

(3) Divide both sides by 8

8x = 24

8x8=248 (Divide both sides by 8)

⇒ x = 3

(4) Multiply both sides by 6

x6= 3

x6×6= 3×6 (Multiply both sides by 6)

⇒ x = 18
