Structure of HNO3 is

O. N. of H = +1

O.N. of N = (covalent bond with OH)+(Covalent bonds with O)+(coordinate covalent bond with O)

= (+1 + (+2) + (+2) [Because N is less E.N. than O] = +5

Alternatively :

O. N. of H = +1

O.N. of O = - 2

(+1) +N +3 (-2) =0

n = 5
