Question

Find p(0),p(1) and p(2) for the following polynomial: p(y)=y2-y+1

Open in App
Solution

Step 1. Define a Polynomial

A polynomial is an algebraic expression in which the exponent on any variable is a whole number. Polynomial’s degree is the highest or the greatest power of a variable in a polynomial equation. The degree indicates the highest exponential power in the polynomial.

Step 2. Find the required values

Given equation p(y)=y2-y+1

Put the value p(0) in the given equation

p(0)=02-0+1=1

p(0)=1

Put the value p(1) in the given equation

p(1)=12-1+1=1-1+1=1

p(1)=1

Put the value p(2) in the given equation

p(2)=22-2+1=4-2+1=3

p(2)=3

Hence, p(0)=1, p(1)=1 and p(2)=3
