Find the angles, when:
(i)The angles are complementary and the smaller is 40 less than the larger.
(ii)The angles are complementary and the larger is four times the smaller.

We know, two angles are said to be complementary, if the sum of their measures is 90.

Then:
i) If one angle is x, then its complement given is x+40.
Then, x+x+40=90
2x=90o40o=50o
x=90o5=18o.
Then, smaller anglex=25 and larger angle is x+40o=25o+40o=65.

ii) If one angle is x, then its complement given is 4x.
Then, x+4x=90
5x=90o
x=90o5=18o.
Then, smaller anglex=18 and larger angle is 4x=4×18o=72o.
