Find the approximate area of the following apple if the area of each small square is 1 cm2.

To find the approximate area of the given apple, we have to find the number of full, half, more than half, and less than half squares in the apple.

From the above figure,
Number of full squares (A) = 5
Number of more than half squares (B) = 5
Number of less than half squares (C) = 8
Number of half squares = 0

Area of full square = 1 cm2
Approximate area of more than half square = 1 cm2
Area of half square = 12 cm2
Approximate area of less than half square = 0

Approximate area of the apple = Number of full squares + Number of more than half squares + 12× Number of half squares + 0 × Number of less than half squares

Approximate area of the apple = [5 + 5] × 1= 10 cm2
