Find the area of a right angled ABC, if the radius of its circumcircle is 3 cm and altitude drawn to the hypotenuse is 2 cm.

Solution

If we take AC as the base of the triangle ABC, then BM is the height ( perpendicular distance from a vertex to the base ) of the triangle.

Base, AC=2r=2×3=6 cm

Height, BM=2 cm

Area, A=12×base×height

A=12×6×2

=6cm2
