Question

Find the area of a trapezium whose parallel sides are 11 cm and 25 cm long, and the nonparallel sides are 15 cm and 13 cm long.

Open in App
Solution

Here area of trapezium = Area of parallelogram + area of the triangle

Area of the triangle =s(sa)(sb)(sc) sq units

s=14+15+132=21

Area of the triangle =21(2114)(2115)(2113) sq units

=21×7×6×8

=7056=84 sq units

Also the area of triangle =12×base×height

84=12×14×h

h=12 cm
Hence height of parallelogram is also 12 cm
Area of parallelogram =base×height
=11×12=132 sq cm

area of trapezium = Area of parallelogram + area of the triangle
Hence area of trapezium =84+132=216 sq cm
