Let ABC be an isosceles triangle such that AB = AC = y cm and BC = x cm
Construction: Draw AD⊥BC which bisects BC at D ⇒BD=x2cm
In △ABD, AD2+BD2=AB2 AD=√AB2−BD2 =√y2−(x2)2 =√y2−x24 ∴Area of triangle=12×base×altitude =12×BC×AD =12×x×√y2−x24 =x2√y2−x24
Hence, the required area is x2√y2−x24
