Question

Find the area of the 1.5 m wide pathways (green) if length is twice of breadth which is equal to 6 m (in square cm).

Open in App
Solution

Breadth of the rectangle = EH = FG = 6 m

Length of rectangle = 2×Breadth
AB = CD = 12 m

Area of the pathway ABCD = 12 m × 1.5 m = 18 m2

Area of the pathway EFGH = 6 m × 1.5 m = 9 m2

Area (PQRS) = 1.5 m × 1.5 m = 2.25 m2 (This area is taken twice)

Total area of pathway = Area (ABCD) + Area (EFGH) – Area (PQRS)

= (18 + 9 – 2.25) m2 = 24.75 m2

1 m2 = 10000 cm2

So, 24.75 m2 = (24.75 × 10000) cm2 = 247500 cm2
