Find the area of the pentagon shown in the figure if AD=10 cm,AG=8 cm,AH=6 cm,AF=5 cm and BF=5 cm,CG=7 cm and EH=3 cm.
In the figure,here are three triangles and one trapezium.
AD=10 cm, BF=5 cm
AG=8 cm, CG=7 cm
AH=6 cm,EH=3 cm
AF=5 cm
Now area of △ ADE=12×AD×EH=12×10×3 cm2=15 cm2Area of △ ABF=12×AF×BF=12×5×5=252 cm2=12.5 cm2Area of △ CDG=12×GD×CG=12[AD−AG]×CG
=12(10−8)×7 cm2=12×2×7=7 cm2Area of trapezium BFGC=12(BF+CG)×FG=12(5+7)×(AG−AF)=12×12×(8−5) cm2=6×3=18 cm2∴ Area of the figure ABCDE=15+12.5+7+18=52.5 cm2
