The correct option is C $240 m^{2}$

Area of the triangle ABC
$= \frac{1}{2} \times B a s e \times H e i g h t$
$= \frac{1}{2} \times 40 m \times 16 m = 320 m$
Area of the rectangle $= L e n g t h \times B r e a d t h$
$= 8 m \times 10 m = 80 m^{2}$
$∴$ Area of the shaded portion
=Area of the triangle - Area of the rectangle
$= 320 m^{2} - 80 m^{2} = 240 m^{2}$
