Open in App
Solution

Solve for area of the given shaded region:

Given, side of ABCDs=14cm

From the figure, we can say that,

Area of shaded region = Area of ABCD-( Area of four semi-circles + Area of EFGH)

Step 1: Find area of ABCD

Area of ABCD=(s)2

=142

Area of ABCD=196cm2

Step 2: Find area of semi-circle

From the figure, we can say, diameter of each semi-circle = side of EFGH and

AB=3cm+2×radius of semi-circle + side of EFGH+3cm

14=3+2r+2r+3 [ where, r is the radius of each semi-circle]

4r=8r=2cm

Area of each semi-circle=12πr2

=12×227×4=447cm2

Area of four semi-circles=4×447=25.14cm2

Step 3: Find area of EFGH

Side of EFGH=2r=2(2)=4cm

Area of EFGH=42=16cm2

Step 4: Find area of shaded region

Area of shaded region = Area of ABCD-( Area of four semi circles + Area of EFGH)

Area of shaded region =196-25.14+16=154.86cm2

Hence, area of the shaded region is 154.86cm2
