Find the area of the shaded region in Figure, where arcs drawn with centres A,B,C and D intersect in pairs at mid-point P,Q,R and S of the sides AB,BC,CD and DA respectively of a square ABCD of side 12cm [Use π=3.14].

Solution
Given side of the square BC=12cm
Since, Q is the midpoint of BC
Radius =BQ=122=6cm
Area of quadrant BPQ=πr24=62π4=113.044cm2
Area of four quadrants =4×113.044=113.04cm2
Area of square =122=144cm2
∴ Area of shaded region = Area of square − Area of four quadrants
