Find the area of the square garden which has a path of length $40 \sqrt{2}$ cm along the diagonal.

Solution

Given the length of the path along the diagonal is $40 \sqrt{2}$ cm .
Let the side of the square garden is $a$ cm.
Then according to the problem,
$a \sqrt{2} = 40 \sqrt{2}$
or, $a = 40$ .
Then area of the square garden is $a^{2} = 1600$ cm $^{2}$ .
