Solution

The correct option is B 12 sq units
Area of the trapezoid ABCDEF = area of the ΔABF + area of the square BCEF + area of the ΔCDE
Area of the ΔABF=12× base × height
=12×AB×BF
=12×2×2
= 2 sq units

Area of the square BCEF = side × side
=BC×CE
=2×2=4 sq units

Area of the ΔCDE=12× base × height
=12×CD×CE
=12×2×6
= 6 sq units

Area of the trapezoid ABCDEF = 2 + 4 + 6 = 12 sq units

Alternatively, Area of the trapezoid ABCDEF=12× (sum of parallel sides)× height

Length of first parallel side, EF = 2 units
Length of second parallel side, AD = AB + BC + CD = 2 + 2 + 6 = 10 units
Area of the trapezoid =12×(EF+AD)×BF
=12×(2+10)×2=12 sq units
Option A is correct.
