Question

Find the area of the triangle whose two adjecent sides are represented by the vectors ¯¯¯a=3¯i+4¯j and ¯¯b=5¯i+7¯j

Open in App
Solution

As we know for a triangle formed by two vectors
Area of =|¯¯¯aׯ¯b|2 .....(1)

We know that,
¯¯¯aׯ¯b=∣ ∣ ∣¯i¯j¯¯¯k340570∣ ∣ ∣
¯¯¯aׯ¯b=(4×07×0)¯i+[3×0(5)×0]¯j+[3×74×(5)]¯¯¯k
¯¯¯aׯ¯b=[21+20]¯¯¯k
¯¯¯aׯ¯b=41¯¯¯k

Now,
|¯¯¯aׯ¯b|=02+02+412=41

Substituting this value in equation(1), we get
Area of =412

Hence, area of =412 unit2
