Question

Find the co-ordinates of the point P if P is the midpoint of a line segment AB with A(4,1) and B(-3,5).
  1. (3,12)
  2. (3,23)
  3. (23,3)
  4. (12,3)

Solution

The correct option is D (12,3)
Mid-point of line joining two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is  (x1+x22,y1+y22)

Here, x1=4, x2=3, y1=1 & y2=5.

P(x,y)=(x1+x22,y1+y22)            =(4+(3)2,1+52)            =(12,3).

Coordinates of P is (12,3).
