Question

Find the coordinatesof the foce, the vertices, the length of major axis, the minor axis, the eccentricity and the length of the latus rectum of the ellipse.
x216+y29=1

    Open in App
    Solution

    The equation of given ellipse is
    x216+y29=1
    Now 16>9a2=16andb2=9
    So the equationof ellipse in standard form is
    x2a2+y2b2=1
    a2=16a=4andb2=9b=3
    We know that c=a2b2c=169=7
    \thereofre Coordinates fo foci are (±c,0)i.e.(±7,0)
    coordinates fo vertices are (±a,0)i.e.(±4,0)
    Length of major axis =2a=2×4=8
    Length of minor axis =2b=2×3=6
    Eccentricity (e) =ca=frac74
    Length of latus rectum =2b2a=2×94=92.
