(a) $5 x^{2} - 8 x^{7} + 3 x$

(b) $4 y^{3} - 3 y + 8$

(a) $In polynomial 5 x^{2} - 8 x^{7} + 3 x$ ;
(i) The degree of term $5 x^{2}$ = 2
(ii) The degree of term $- 8 x^{7} = 7$
(iii) The degree of term 3x = 1
Since, the greatest power is 7, therefore degree of the polynomial $5 x^{2} - 8 x^{7} + 3 x$ is 7

(b) The degree of polynomial ;
(i) The degree of term $4 y^{3} = 3$
(ii) The degree of term -3y = 1
(iii) The degree of term 8 = 0
Since, the greatest power is 3, therefore degree of the polynomial $4 y^{3} - 3 y + 8$ is 3
