Question

Find the deviation obtained by a monochromatic red light incident on an equilateral triangle prism at an angle of 60 degree. Given that refractive index of the glass prism is√3.

Open in App
Solution

we have equation of Refractive index

n=sin ((A+D)/2)/sinA/2
A : angle of the prism
D angle of deviation

Root 2=sin (60+D)/2)/sin 60/2

root 2=sin(60+D)/2)/sin 30
on rearranging
sin(60+D)/2)=1/root 2

it is poosible if (60+D)/2=45

so D =30 °
