(a) Distance $=\sqrt{{\left(4-2\right)}^2+{\left(1-3\right)}^2}$

$=\sqrt{4+4}$

$=\sqrt{8}$

$=2\sqrt{2}$

(b) Distance $=\sqrt{{\left(-1+5\right)}^2+{\left(3-7\right)}^2}$

$=\sqrt{{\left(4\right)}^2+{\left(-4\right)}^2}$

$=\sqrt{16+16}$

$=\sqrt{2\times 16}=4\sqrt{2}$
