Question

Find the equation of a line which passes through (5, 4) and makes an angle of 60 with the positive direction of the x-axis.

Open in App
Solution

Slope of the line = tan 60 = square root of 3

The line passes through the point (5, 4) = (x1, y1)

Substituting the values in y - y1 = m(x - x1), we get,

y - 4 = square root of 3(x - 5)

y - 4 = square root of 3x - 5square root of 3

y =square root of 3x + 4 - 5square root of 3, which is the required equation.
