Question

Find the HCF of the following pair of polynomials:
x22x+1 and x23x+2.

Open in App
Solution

We know that HCF is the highest common factor.

Factorise x22x+1 as follows:

x22x+1=x2xx+1=x(x1)1(x1)=(x1)(x1)

Now, factorise x23x+2 as follows:

x23x+2=x22xx+2=x(x2)1(x2)=(x1)(x2)

Since the common factor between the polynomials x22x+1 and x23x+2 is (x1).

Hence, the HCF is (x1).
