Find the intercepts cut off by the line $x - 3 y + \sqrt{3} = 0$ on the axes.

$x -$ intercept:Put $y = 0$
$∴ x + \sqrt{3} = 0$
$\Rightarrow x = - \sqrt{3}$ is the $x -$ intercept
$y -$ intercept:Put $x = 0$
$∴ - 3 y + \sqrt{3} = 0$
$\Rightarrow y = \frac{- \sqrt{3}}{- 3} = \frac{\sqrt{3}}{3} \times \frac{\sqrt{3}}{\sqrt{3}} = \frac{3 \sqrt{3}}{3} = \sqrt{3}$ is the $y -$ intercept.
