Question

Find the interval in which the following function is increasing or decreasing.
f(x)=5+36x+3x22x3

Open in App
Solution

Given the function f(x)=5+36x+3x22x3.

Now,

f(x)

=36+6x6x2

=6(x2x6)

=(6)(x3)(x+2).

So the function f(x) is going to be an increasing function if f(x)0 i.e.

(x3)(x+2)0

or, 2x3.

the function f(x) is going to be an decreasing function if f(x)0 i.e.
(x3)(x+2)0

or, x3,x2.

So the given function is increasing in [2,3] and decreasing in
(,2][3,).
