Question

Find the last term of the following sequence 4,42,43 ............. to 2n terms

Open in App
Solution

It is given that the first term of G.P is a1=4 and the second term is a2=42, therefore,

r=a2a1=424=4

We know that the formula for the nth term of an G.P is Tn=arn1, where a is the first term, r is the common ratio.

It is given that the first term is a=4, number of terms are n=2n and the common ratio is r=4, thus,

T2n=4×(4)2n1=4×42n×41=4×(42)n×14=16n

Hence, the last term is16n, which is equivalent to 42n.
