Question

Find the mean and median for the data: 18,22,16,25,37,24,13,20,26,19

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Calculate the mean by adding all the data and then dividing the sum by the number of observations in the data.

x¯=18+22+16+25+37+24+13+20+26+1910=22010=22

Step 2: Arrange the given data in ascending order.

13,16,18,19,20,22,24,25,26,37

n=10

  • If n is odd then, Median=n+12th term.
  • If n is even then, Median=12n2thterm+n2+1thterm term.

So here Median=12n2thterm+n2+1thterm.

Median=12102thterm+102+1thterm=125thterm+6thterm=1220+22=1242=21

Hence, the mean of the data is 22 and the median of the data is 21.
