Find the mode of the following distribution table:
Class Interval 0 - 1010 - 2020 - 3030 - 4040 - 5050 - 6060 - 7070 - 80
Frequency 71413122011158

Solution

Formula for finding mode is given by,
Mode = L+fmfm1(fmfm1)+(fmfm+1)×w
Where, L= lower class boundary of modal class
(Model class = class with highest frequency)
fm1= frequency of class before modal class
fm= frequency of modal class
fm+1= frequency of after modal class
w = group width
Here,
0-1010-20 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60 60-70 70-80
714 13 12 20 11 15 8
Hence, Mode = 40+2012(2012)+(2011)×10
=40+88+9×10
=40+8017=40(1+217)
=40×1917=76017
Mode = 76017
