Solution

Find the mode of the given data

Given frequency distribution is:

Class interval25-3030-3535-4040-4545-5050-55
Frequency253450423814

For this continuous data set, class interval with highest frequency is 35-40 with a frequency of 50.

We know that, mode=l+(f1-f02f1-f0-f2)h, where

l=35, lower limit of modal class

f1=50, frequency of the modal class

f0=34 , frequency of the class preceding modal class

f2=42 , frequency of the class succeeding modal class

h=5 , size of the class interval

So, the mode for modal class 35-40 will be,

mode=35+{50-34(2×50)-34-42}×5mode=35+(16100-76)×5mode=35+16×524mode=35+103mode=1153=38.33

Hence, the mode of the given data is 38.33.
