Question

Find the mode of the following frequency distribution:

Class25-3030-3535-4040-4545-5050-55
Frequency253450423814

Open in App
Solution

Finding the mode:

Mode=l+f1-f02f1-f0-f2×h

Where l = Lower limit of the class interval

f1 = Frequency of the modal class

f0 = Frequency of the class preceding the modal class

f2 = Frequency of class succeeding the modal class

h = size of the class interval

In the given frequency distribution, 35-40 will be the modal class because this class has the maximum frequency. Therefore,

l=35, f1=50, f0=34, f2=42, h=5

Substitute the values in the formula of mode we get,

Mode=35+50-342×50-34-42×5=35+8024=38.33

Final Answer: The mode of the given frequency distribution is 38.33.
