Solution
The correct option is D180∘ clockwise Given,
Angle of incidence of light ray onto mirror−1(i1)=30∘
Angular deviation of incident light rays from Mirror−1
δ1=180−2i1=120∘↻
From the diagram, we can deduce that, the angle of incidence of light ray on mirror −2 is i2=90∘−30∘=60∘
Angular deviation of incident light rays from Mirror−2
δ2=180−2i2=δ2=60∘↻
Total deviation of light ray with respect to the incident light ray
δnet=δ1+δ2=120∘↻+60∘↻=180∘↻or180∘↺
Alternate method :
Let θ be the angle between two mirrors.
As we know, δnet is independent of i (Angle of incidence).
We can write that, δnet=2θ↺
[since θ is anticlockwise from mirror 1 to mirror 2]
∴δnet=2×90∘=180∘↺or180∘↻
Why this Question?This question is aimed at enhancing the conceptual understanding of angle of deviationwhen two plane mirrors are placedpe rpendicular to each other
