Question

Find the percentage of nitrogen in an organic compound analysed by Kjeldahl method 1.61 g of the compound produced NH3 which was absorbed in 250mL of N2H2SO4 solution. The remaining acid was then diluted to one litre, 25mL of which required 25.5mL of N/10 NaOH for exact neutralization.

Solution

% of N2 by Kjeldlal's method =1.4×M×2×(VV12)Massoforganiccompound
V= Vol. of H2SO4=250ml
V1= Vol. of NaOH=25.5ml
N2H2SO4=M4H2SO4(n=2)
Mass of 0.6=1.619
% N2=1.4×14×225025.521.6149.0217%
