Since the polynomial vanishes or become 0 at x=1 and x=3, therefore, x-1 and x-3 are its factors. Let the other factor be x-αLet px=kx-αx-1x-3Using remainder theorem, if px is divided by x+1 i.e. x--1, then remainder is given by p-1p-1=k-1-α-1-1-1-3=-28k1+α=2 ________1Again Using remainder theorem, if px is divided by x-2, then remainder is given by p2p2=k2-α2-12-3=-2k2-α=2 _________2From equation 1 and 2k2-α=8k1+α2-α=81+α2-α=8+8α9α=-6α=-23Put in equation 18k1-23=28k13=2k=34px=34x+23x-1x-3
