Question

Find the projection of the vector a=4^i2^j+^k on the vector b=3^i+6^j+2^k. Also find component of a along b and perpendicular to b.

Open in App
Solution

a=4^i2^j+^k
b=3^i+6^j+2^k
b=9+36+4=7
^b=b|b|=37^i+67^j+27^k
Projection of a on b=a.^b=(4^i2^j+^k).(37^i+67^j+27^k)=27
Component of vector a on b=27^b=27(37^i+67^j+27^k)=349^i+649^j+249^k
Component of a along perpendicular to b=a27^b
=19049^i11049^j+4549^k
