Question

find the ratio in which line segment joining the points joining the points (-3,5) and (2,6) is divided by y axis

Open in App
Solution

We know that x co ordinate on y axis is always zero. i,e x=0.

Let y axis divide the line joining the given points in the ratio m1 : m2.

x=(m1.x2+m2.x1)/(m1+m2)

0={m1×2+m2×(-3)}/(m1+m2) , by crossmultiplecation:-

2m1–3m2=0

2m1=3m2

m1/m2= 3/2

m1 : m2= 3 : 2 , answer.
