Solution

Ratios are used to compare quantities which have same units.
To find the ratio of the given numbers we have to convert them into same units.
[1 mark]

(a) ₹1 = 100 paise

Now, ratio of 55 paise to ₹1 = 55 paise : 100 paise

= 55100 = 1120 = 11:20 [Dividing numerator and denominator by HCF of 55 and 100 i.e. 5]

(b) 2 litres = 2 × 1000 ml = 2000 ml
[ 1 litre = 1000 ml]

Now, ratio of 500 ml to 2 litres = 500 ml : 2 litres

= 500 ml : 2000 ml = 5002000

= 14=1:4 [Dividing numerator and denominator by HCF of 500 and 2000 i.e. 500]
