The correct option is D 4.8 kg
The given spring balance arrangement can be converted to string arrangement as shown

As we know that the spring balance reads the spring force kx which is equivalent to tension T in the string.

So, from the FBDs of both the blocks we have
6gT=6a........(i)
and,
T4g=4a.......(ii)
On solving (i) & (ii), we get
2g=10a a=2g10=2 m/s2
from FBD of 6 Kg we have
T=6(ga)=6×8=48 N
So, the reading in spring balance is
Equivalent mass = 48g=4.8 kg


Alternate:

a=supporting force- opposing forceTotal mass
=6g4g10=2g10=2 m/s2
For 6 kg mass ; T=6(ga)=6×8=48 N
Equivalent mass = 48g=4.8 kg
